Mr. Patrick Alvarez Alunga specialises in commercial law dispute resolution, construction law disputes, contracts and land law transactions and land rights enforcements.

Selected relevant experience

Acted for a client in a constitutional matter before the constitutional court leading to striking out of sections in the Financial Institutions Act (FIA) that empowered the central bank to freeze bank accounts. The CC found the provision empowering the central bank of Uganda to freeze accounts unconstitutional.

Representing construction firms in complex commercial, construction and insurance matters. In 2019, secured a favourable decision for a multi-national enterprise in a complex marine insurance claim that resulted in an award in favour of the client for $2.6M and other awards.

In 2017 acted for a MNE, in a tax dispute covering transfer pricing issues that ultimately resulted in an amicable settlement with an overall reduction in the tax liability to the client.

In 2009, in a first of its kind, represented a leading telecom firm in an arbitration dispute over breach of contract. The Award was subsequently recognised and enforced as a foreign award by the Federal Court of Australia in 2011.

Ms. Leku Winnie specializes in contract law, commercial law, land transactions and tax law.
